A woman in Greeley, Colorado is arrested after she shot her poodle terrior mix with a .22 caliber handgun. Police said they found the woman in her front yard crying. She told officers that she couldn’t afford to euthanize the 15-year old dog who was sick. The woman told the Greeley Tribune, “Bailey was my best friend. I had a lot of financial problems lately, and my car was stolen, so I didn’t have any money to take her to a vet to have her put down.” She was arrested under felony animal cruelty charges.

xPirate’s response to the situation: I’m conflicted. I don’t know what the condition of the dog was, I guess. If the dog was like suffering tremendously, then I believe that the woman did the right thing. If it wasn’t suffering though, she should have let nature kill it. However, I don’t believe that she should have been arrested. The lady had the dog’s best interest in heart. She was in no way being cruel about it. Vets shouldn’t charge money to put animals down. THAT sounds more like cruelty to me.

Ford is releasing a new feature on 2010 models that will allow parents to take control of their teen drivers through a computer chip in the key. The chip limits the driver to 80mph and has the options of limiting audio volume and sending alerts when seatbelts are not worn.

Ford says, “Our message to parents is, hey, we are providing you some conditions to give your new drivers that may allow you to feel a little more comfortable in giving them the car more often.” 75 percent of parents are for the system while 67 percent of teenagers are against it.

Some teens say what they think about it:

“I wouldn’t want my parents to have that much control over how I’m driving. If your parents are holding your hand, you’re never going to learn.”

“There may be emergency situations where [I] would have to drive more than 80, possibly to accelerate to avoid a crash.”

xPirate’s thoughts on the subject: Dear worried parents, LEAVE YOUR KIDS ALONE! I have a huge problem with parents not being able to accept the fact that their teens are growing up. The constant restrictions force them to rebel even more, possibly by just stealing the parent’s key or learning how to deprogram the key, resulting in worse consequences and more “bad teens”.

Remember, back in the day, when you learned how to drive at age 12 and didn’t have all this fancy technology. You learned on your own. Like a real human being. I don’t remember this, because I’m only 17, but I must agree with the person who quoted above. How in the world do you expect teens to learn if they are constantly being restricted with rules and regulations?

It is when freedom is limited that creativity is stifled and the once free-thinking mind becomes a slave.

Also, anyone who speeds over 80 and is not on the interstate, is mad crazy insane and probably deserves to get in a car accident. It’s called population control. Stupid people were meant to die so that the smarter ones can live on.

A seven year old little boy evaded zoo security as he jumped over the fence to enter Wednesday morning. He proceeded to bludgeon animals with rocks and even went as far as to throw some over the fence of the crocodile cage. At one point he was seen trying to get into the crocodile enclosure himself. The zoo director stated that many of the animals were rare and going to be difficult to replace. The boy is too young to be held responsible, but the zoo is looking into suing the parents. “We’re looking into suing the parents, who were supposedly in control of him at the time.”

xPirate’s thoughts on the subject: Where the hell is this kid’s parents? And if they were just standing back watching, they should not be allowed to even have children! This is insane. Does the boy have some sort of mental disability? If he doesn’t, I’m terrified of what he will turn into when he gets older (murderer, much?) I hope his parents do get sued, because the zoo will most certainly win the case. They lost 13 rare animals. And all I can really say about this situation is, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THAT KID!?

A man in Fort Myers resorted to shooting himself twice in the arm after his girlfriend refused to have sex with him. The couple came home from the bar early Wednesday morning and when the man tried to get intimate the woman refused. She just wanted to go to sleep. After her boyfriend expressed anger she went to another bedroom to get some sleep. She then reported hearing two gut shots. The man came into the room and threatened her before stumbling into the kitchen and falling onto the stove where he was knocked unconcious. The man is now being charged with threatening violence and firing a weapon in an occupied dwelling and is being held on $100,000 bail.

xPirate responds to the situation: Uhm…really? This dude was clearly never taught as a child the simple lesson that NO MEANS NO! I mean, he probably was drunk, having just come home from the bar and everything, but if he was drunk enough to forget that then he probably wouldn’t have been able to perform well in bed anyways.

To look on the positive side of things, at least the girl wasn’t raped or hurt in any way. Not to mention the bastard got what he deserved. I’m still trying to figure out why he shot himself though, because that just doesn’t make much sense to me. Was it an accident? Or did he deliberately shoot himself because he couldn’t get laid? Either way, it makes the guy an idiot.

The bailout bill passes in the Senate Wednesday night after a stunning vote of 74-25. The revised bill contained tax breaks among other things to help soften the Republicans into passing it. The bill is expected to be voted on by the House of Representatives where it failed the first time around on Friday. The Senate encourages the members of the House to maintain bipartisan views so that the bill can be passed.

xPirate says: THANK GOD!!! Let’s just hope there’s not another political deadlock in the House. I really think that this bill needs to pass. Of course, I’m no economist, so I don’t even know what’s really going on, and that’s why I don’t have much to say about it.

A recent bank robbery in Monroe, Washington has investigators stifled by the creativity of what could very well be the worlds next super villian. The robbery happened around 11AM at the Bank of America when an armored car security guard was peppersprayed. The robber than proceeded to the nearby creek where he escaped on an intertube. Many of the investigators had never experienced such a creative get away.

What’s more appauling than the get-away was the ad on craigslist from a supposed road construction company that asked people wanting a job to meet right near the bank. The applicants were asked to wear a yellow vest, safety goggles, a respirator mask, and if possible, a blue shirt. About a dozen people showed up only to later find out that they had been recruited into decoys for the robber, who wore the same attire.

The robber is still at large. Police have found the intertube he used but have no trace of him after that. They are still investigating the ad on craigslist.

xPirate’s thoughts on the new super villian: First of all, I want to say RIGHT ON! I don’t condone bank robbery, but this man was obviously intelligent. I give him props. It reminded me a lot of the bank robbery scene from The Dark Knight, when the Joker kills off all his accomplices and takes all the money for himself. If this man is the next real world super villian, I’d cheer him on.

After the proposed 700 billion dollar bailout bill failed in the House of Representatives on Monday, major political leaders urged the congress to take immediate action on revising the plan in order to make it pass. Today, a revised bill will be introduced into the Senate, in hopes to save the current failing economy.

Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Senator, says it would “shield Americans from a shockwave of problems they didn’t create.” Senator Harry Reid hopes that if the Senate shows a strong example of bipartisanship, the House of Representatives would be encouraged to do the same. Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain will be returning to Washington D.C. for the vote that will take place later today.

Obama stated while speaking in Reno, Nevada, that without this bill “millions of jobs could be lost, and a long painful recession could follow. There will be a time to punish those who set this fire, but now is the moment for us to come together to put the fire out.”

Boston has started giving its citizens an incentive for going green. Large recycling bins containing high tech equipment scan each household’s recyclables for a radio frequency ID tag and then weighs the amount recycled that week. This information is transmitted to a website that awards points that can be redeemed for discounts. “It’s like a frequent-flier program for recyclers.”

The system is ran by a company called RecycleBank who’s main premise is to turn trash into treasure. Their goal is to be serving 1 million people by the end of 2009. The company is very focused on going green and thought that more people would recycle if they could get something back for it.

xPirate gives a response: Gosh. I’m such a conflicting person. I’m very happy that this company is trying to encourage more and more Americans to recycle, but what pisses me off is that people feel they need incentive to do it! Is it not good enough that you are saving the Earth from the mass destruction that you are the direct cause of?

But I’m not going to bother all of you with my opinions on the stupidity of ignorant humans. I want to try and focus more on the technological side of these mechanisms. First of all, I didn’t know my recyclables are tagged with a radio frequency ID. Are people tracking my trash? And if so, why? I guess I just don’t fully understand that part of it. One question I have is, how much do you have to recycle to get a relevant amount of points? Because if you’re looking at needing a crap-ton of trash just for like $1 off some soda, that’s not very good personal gain. Of course, I don’t believe you should recycle for personal gain in the first place, so it doesn’t really matter.

Today the House of Representatives convened to vote on the $700 billion dollar bailout plan that would buy bad mortgage debt from large banks and firms and give them an opportunity to get back on their feet. The plan failed with a vote of 228 to 205. Both President Bush and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown expressed their disappointment in bill’s failure.

Traders on the floor in Wall Street were not pleased. Shares dropped a record amount today, falling 770 points. Wachovia, the fourth largest bank in the US, sold to competitor Citigroup.

The problem is no longer just here in the US as major foreign markets fell drastically today. Without the bailout plan, many more banks and investment firms will bust. Nancy Pelosi stated, “The legislation has failed, the crisis has not gone away.” Republican house leader claimed a speech given by Pelosi, “poisoned our conference, caused a number of members that we thought we could get to go south.”

Presidential candidate John McCain claims that the Democrat’s partisan speech as being unhelpful. He stated, “Now is not the time to fix the blame, it’s time to fix the problem.” He encouraged congressmen to try and work out a new deal immediately.

Opponent Barack Obama expects a bailout bill of some form to pass. He is upset that the mess on Wall Street has transferred to the average citizen. He says, “If I am president I will review the entire plan the day I take office to make sure that it is working to save our economy and that you get your money back.”

xPirate’s thoughts on the situation: I’m very worried now that the bill has failed. With the markets falling as much as they have recently, we are heading very quickly toward another Great Depression. I personally expected the bill to pass, but once again, Republicans bring a halt to our glimmer of hope. I’m pissed that once again partisanship and stupid bickering in Washington has led to nothing being done! Do these politicians just not realize that we are in a state of crisis? We can’t wait for the parties to agree on everything.
